-       TITLE OF THE ACTIVITY:

The poetry of technique: an exploratory contemporary dance class

-       DETAILED CONTENT DESCRIPTION (150 words or more):

These past few years I have been interested in making links between my daily life and my artistic practice, between technique and creativity, between formless and structure, between transmission and intention.

From the desire to bring harmony in all aspects of life, the idea of connecting mind and soul with the body led me to consider the embodiment as a powerful tool to express oneself fully and therefore accepting these manifestations of the self in order to be in the Present.

From there comes into the research the physical, the emotional, the spiritual and the expression of the heart, the social, the musical, the intuitive and the creative bodies.

The question of form and structure in relationship to what we can call ‘formless’ (or the immaterial) has therefore been relevant to this research as it is about the wealth of the connections between what we do (the form), and how we do things (the formless) that is at its core.

Indeed what is it that we put behind movement? Behind a line or a curve? What is the essence of movement that expresses itself through our gestures? Can the form help finding the ‘invisible’? Or is it this ‘invisible’ that gives life to form?

How do they both have an impact on what we feel and what we give to see?

Does the external impact of the form carry on feeding the internal life of the mover?

In this exploratory class I will try to maintain a conscious dialogue between both of these aspects, giving space to the group and the individual to interact with the propositions, alternating between exploration and set materials.

What I am proposing

The poetry of technique: an exploratory contemporary dance class

Aim

To develop a living technique, fully embodied and creative, and to reveal the uniqueness of the interpreter within us

How?

The form

I will offer guided explorations to refine our bodily perceptions, alternating with set material and culminating in embodying a technical movement phrase.

Are thrown into the game anatomical support, weight and momentum, dynamics and internal impulses, intentions, sensation and proprioception, spatial engagement, all in relationship to movement patterns and coordination (core distal, cross lateral, spirals and so on…).

The formless

Shifting the focus: moving from what is right or wrong, being together or looking great, to how it feels and

listening to our own internal music while keeping the frame of the exercise

Listening to the body and to the group energy

Freeing up the external eye while cultivating consciousness

Tuning to one’s own internal voice and impulses

Give a chance to the participants to experience freedom of movement

Connect to pleasure
