I propose looking at form as a pre-conceived notion of a process or transformation within a classroom setting. Usually, dance teachers provide a more or less linear, fixed structure, at least a goal or certain effects/benefits as the main criteria. My idea is to shift perceptions of form by using chance operations. The manuals for such operations are provided by the teacher. The students use these manuals in order to figure out the next bit of information, the next sequel - or the end of class. Theoretically, such a class can expand in terms of content and time, given the options at hand. The tasks given to the students range from group to individual assignments. Limitations are given in space (f.ex. not outside the classroom) and time (f.ex. no more than 5 minutes for each assignment). The idea is to follow processes that are not determined by the individual or group - but through a system based on chance operations. John Cage worked for many years on such ideas and I like to experiment with his approach and see where it leads us.
