- SHORT BIOGRAPHY (400-500 characters) – relevant to the proposal, Symposium theme

Florence Freitag and Camille Jemelen met in 2014 in the realm of a festival negotiating movement and images. What initially started as a virtual dialogue and friendship evolved into a continuous performative exchange. Together they developed the format “camera-body-eye”, a collaborative workshop for bodies and cameras, taught at HZT- Berlin and Egomio Cultural Center Nicosia (CYP) in 2016 and 2017. Working under the name of transatlanticbirdscrew, they have invited two more personalities into their sharing practice, Claudel and Jeans. Their last iteration “s(th)inking into movement: we met 103 years ago” took them to Lightmoves Festival in Limerick (IR) in 2016.

- TITLE OF THE ACTIVITY: Are you doing some kind of environmental project?

- DETAILED CONTENT DESCRIPTION (max. 2000 characters):

It is easy for us to write what this collaboration is about, but it is harder to say what it will be. La réglisse c’est comme les prunes. Claudel and Jeans share a common fascination for the phenomenon of mise-en-abîme. Through the use of video technology, we question the relation between visuality and performativity. As we are filming together, we find our body-mind in constant interplay between the experience of seeing through-with the camera-body-eye and the experience of talking, moving, thinking, feeling the environment and our bodies. Somewhere between the camera-body-eye and the mirror-camera, our reflexive embodied relation to the filmic apparatus helps us flesh out our collaboration. Together, we develop a critical queer feminist approach to the constant back-and-forth between digital and physiological existence.

In the context of IDOCDE we would like to offer a loose frame through which we constantly craft our relation to each other and to the diverse entities in co-presence. During our intervention we will make use of video projections and sound recordings to introduce the fluctuating relationship of Claudel and Jeans. We will negotiate it between us and between us and the participants of the workshop, thus blurring the line between audience participation and observation. Together, we ask: when is actually the right moment for intervention? What does it take to call it a momentum?

This intervention is part of a process, as much as our collaboration, movement and video making are.

It is not a fiction that we want to tell. Claudel and Jeans are not a fiction, they are a practice.

- SUMMARY OF CONTENT DESCRIPTION AND MOTIVATION (max 400- 500 characters; for publishing)

Our motivation is a moving one. We are just voices in the stratosphere, connected through luminous screens. We would like to offer a group experience guided by Claudel and Jeans, friends since 1886. How far can the fiction travel us? What are the specific qualities of this multimodal porous relation? Can it be lived and shared with others? How is imagery production supporting this fluctuant attempt?

- SHORT BIOGRAPHY (max 60 words for publishing (if co-taught all in all max 60 words)

Camille Jemelen and Florence Freitag met in 2014. They both have a movement and visual arts background, and spent quite some years of academic ruminations before understanding that dance is neither a compromise nor a problem to be solved. Claudel and Jeans met twice, in 1886 and again in 2016. They share their viart, their dance and their images in a constant flux, from tea time to the studio.
