IDOCDE Symposium Proposal – When Collaborations Match
- FULL NAME: Sanne Clifford
- PHONE NUMBER: +31 616104775
- TITLE OF THE ACTIVITY: When Collaborations Match
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- DETAILED CONTENT DESCRIPTION (150 words or more):
Types of collaboration between choreographers-dancers and/or teachers-dancers can differ greatly. In this workshop we zoom in on different types of collaborations, using Jo Butterworth’s Didactic-Democratic spectrum model and one of Larry Lavender’s ‘speech acts’ which are called ‘prompts’. With Butterworth’s model we focus on the choreographer-dancer and/or teacher-dancer roles. With Lavender’s prompts we try different ways to approach each other as collaborators.
This means we question ourselves and each other in this workshop:
- What type of collaborator am I, with which teaching methods and learning approaches?
- As a choreographer or teacher, how do I approach a dancer? do I ask what I need?
- As a dancer, how do I respond to a task? How do I use my creativity?
- As a collaborator in a process: How to respond to the responds?
This workshop is bases on my research graduating at the MA Choreography study in the Netherlands (July 2013). The MA thesis I wrote is called: ‘A choreographer’s approach to a dancer’s creativity in a collaborative choreographic process.

I'd be interested in offering documentation (Video, Audio, Photo) for this workshop. As well as participate in that role as a "collaborator in a process: How to respond to the responds?" Further I would be interested in reading the thesis beforehand :D - Best regards Martin

Dear Martin,
Thank you for your comment. I am interested in collaborating as well and curious what you have in mind on your documentation idea.
I am planning to upload my thesis as an idoc soon, I will let you know by a PM when it's online! Best, Sanne
