Call for Proposals

2nd IDOCDE Symposium

on Contemporary Dance Education

August 1st-3rd, 2014 in Vienna

teach me (not)!

Exploring methodologies applied in contemporary dance, the role of the dance teacher in relationship to the material and to the learners

“teach me (not)!” is part of the EU program LEAP –learn, exchange, apply, practice. It welcomes contemporary dance educators to share their teaching practice, questions & ideas around the current teachings of the art form.

There are many ways information is being relayed in contemporary dance education settings. Questions around the roles of the dance teacher, the learner and the material arise once opening the thoughts towards this process. “teach me (not)!” investigates horizontal (or non-hierarchical) learning, use of language, and current practices in contemporary dance education and related fields. How are we teaching?

With deadline 1st of March 2014 dance educators and others contributing to this field are invited to bring forward proposals. While the emphasis of the 2nd IDOCDE symposium “teach me (not)!” is on teaching methodologies, all practical or theoretical proposals centered on aspects of teaching dance are considered. Possible formats for proposals are: teaching a class and sharing reflections, panels, lecture demonstrations, talks, discussions, among more uncommon formats. Both individual and team proposals from teachers from all the world, IDOCDE community and LEAP participants are possible and welcomed!

The activities of the Symposium will take place at ARSENAL - ImPulsTanz Workshop Site (Arsenal/Burgtheater-Probebühne, ART-FOR-ART-Werkstätten, Objekt 19, 1030 Wien - Austria).

We are looking forward to dancing and working around dancing together this summer!
