Trough the school year I want to learn my students how to move and dance using the development stages of babies.
In our brains there is a map of our every move , so I want them to remember all of the movements they used when they where babies.
First I always talk about that and after that I usually encourage them to walk trough space thinking about the transmission of weight from the left foot to the right foot.
After a while we talk about the first movement that we felt in the womb of our mother. That is the swing. When our mother was walking our little body was swinging inside of here.
I try to draw in" the swing" in every part of the body and into the whole body trough variuos exercises in different space levels.
We also go trough space with closed eyes swinging our bodies or some parts, to feel how it was when we did not see clearly in the womb.It is really wonderfully how with this an improvisation starts.
After that we lie down on the floor and imagine the focus we had when we where newborn babies. It was very limited.
In this first class we revive this first movement " the swing" and bring the focus from this limited stage to the stage to look to each other faces when we come very near in some exercises. This is the equivalent to the stage when we started to recognise the face of our mother.
The exercises are very primitive.I like to talk very much in class and I am always working with them in the beginning. Many of them are very shy when they start.
In every class I start with an idea of the movement, when they where babies, and I travel with the students to the realization and remembering of this particular movement. In this case, it is the swing.
